A Conservative Party election poster from the 1929 UK General Election presents Stanley Baldwin's policies as tobacco ingredients in a security mixture.

Commissioned by the Conservative Party during Baldwin's 'Safety First' campaign, this poster capitalises on the Prime Minister's famous pipe-smoking habit. Conservative policies appear as ingredients spilling from a tobacco pipe: 'Peace in Industry', 'Safeguarding', 'Rating Reliefs', 'Trade Improvement' - all components of Baldwin's political 'Security Mixture'.

The 1929 election was historic - the first with universal suffrage and Labour's first plurality victory. The Conservative campaign, managed by S.H. Benson advertising agency, represented sophisticated political messaging that personalised policy through Baldwin's public image.

Baldwin's association with pipe tobacco was genuine - he favoured Presbyterian Mixture and once remarked 'My thoughts grow in the aroma of that particular tobacco.' This poster transforms that personal habit into political metaphor.

Archival print from Conservative Party sources, reproduced on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Fine Art Paper.
