White Moorish buildings cascade down Bernard Villemot's azure canvas, their yellow and pink accents catching North African light.
A soaring minaret anchors the composition while a small aircraft crosses the cerulean sky, promising connection between France and Morocco. Commissioned by Air France in 1948, when the airline operated from Casablanca and maintained one of the world's largest fleets.
Villemot, trained at L'École Paul Colin, brought painterly technique to commercial aviation advertising. His stylised interpretation of Islamic architecture and Mediterranean palette depicted the romance of post-war aviation, when flying to North Africa represented adventure and exotic discovery.
The poster documents Air France's colonial-era operations and the golden age of travel advertising, when airlines commissioned artists rather than agencies. Printed as an archival giclée on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Fine Art Paper.
