Corsica rises from deep blue waters in this illustrated map poster by Lucien Boucher for Air France, 1949. Mountainous terrain rendered in warm ochres and reds, coastal villages perched on clifftops, two aircraft crossing the Mediterranean sky.
Commissioned by Air France as part of their post-war expansion campaign, when the airline was opening routes to Mediterranean destinations. Boucher designed this as both travel advertisement and geographic artwork, part of his renowned planisphere series for the airline from 1934 to 1962.
The palette depicts mid-century optimism: saturated blues, warm earth tones, clean white typography. Boucher's signature style of combining cartographic precision with artistic interpretation, making geography into poetry.
Resonates with travellers drawn to illustrated maps and those who appreciate the golden age when airlines commissioned artists, not advertising agencies. Reproduced as an archival print on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Fine Art Paper.
