The route ran more than 15,000 kilometres by way of the former route des Indes, and the composition depicts Japan through a graphic sensibility that blends French mid-century illustration with visual references drawn from Japanese art: blossom, volcanic silhouette, pagoda, and willow rendered in flat planes of warm colour. Editions Perceval was Air France's principal poster workshop through the late 1940s and 1950s, responsible for some of the most collected aviation lithographs of the era.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe amber ground, the layered depth from foreground blossom to distant Fuji, and the Constellation set against a dark sky form a composition that reads both as a document of mid-century aviation advertising and as a graphic study of how French illustrators interpreted Japan in the years before mass long-haul travel made the country familiar.
